The State Of New Jersey sets the limit for applying for a homestead credit at October 31st of the following year, i.e for 2005, you needed to apply by 10/31/2006.

Questions related to the tax consequences of filing or not filing in time should be directed to your CPA.

I went through this with my daughter a number of years ago. I believe my accountant's answer then was that you can amend you taxes up to seven years.

I'm not for sure on this or if the laws have changed, but this would definitely be a question for a CPA.

Hope this helps.

You are better off checking with an accountant, if you have one. Otherwise, I'd go to call the NJ site and get a solid answer.

Did you file a homestead rebate application back then and just forget to cliam it? Check out this website for some answers. An accountant could also answer this question.
