Why don't more sellers have their agents illuminate their signs?

There are several good products on the market that work well! Most are solar so they dont harm the environment. It would seem in this market people would take advantage of every tool available to them.

I have used "illuminated signage" and found it to be particularly effective, here in the Chicago winters when it gets dark so early. Unfortunately the solar signs are a bit too dim, and the battery-powered signs only illuminate for 4 hours, or so, each night, and only last about 4 weeks... so constant replacement of batteries is necessary.

It does, however, help set me apart from other local agents, and I have had inquiries to help list new property (not inquiries on the individual house), because of the lighted signs. So far, the link below has the best one's that I've found, and they're relatively inexpensive (about $65.00 each).

The primay reason is that, according to a CAR 2007 buyer survey, 90% of the time another Realtor brings the buyer. Signs are beoming less important.

Hey Chris,

My guess as to why not more Sellers have their agents illuminate their signs is that Sellers are unaware these sign lights exist. As to why more agents don't illuminate their signs, I think, like any investment for their business, they're afraid they won't see return on their investment. I have seen signs lit at night, and they have definitely caught my eye. Automatically that draws my eye to the house -- not that I've done more than just a once over, but I've definitely thought that listing agent is on top of his/her game. And as Elvis (below) stated, it can be a great tool to generate more listings.

Good question Chris!

I can be cost prohibitive and, may increase vandalism as well....especially for vacant property. Issues that an agent would have to address. In 93-95 it was a much more valuable tool, in my opinion, than in the current market yet, any tool that an agent has access to can have a place. We have been illuminating our signs since 2002 and can not say that is has made a dramatic difference to anyone other than our listing clients. They like it, we like it and we will continue to utilize this tool yet, don't find that it would be a must have for all agents or brokerages.
