A typical rate is 6% . Some agents ask for 7%. There are brokers that will put your home on the market for $500 but then you do all the work. It would be good to interview a few different realtors and have them offer their program and fee's would be. I would be happy to work with you.

Rates depend on the value of the home you are selling--nobody selling a home worth over $250,000 pays 6 or 7 percent. We sold our home in East Grand Rapids($775k) last year and paid 4 percent, from a well known, highly agressive agent/firm who sold our home for top price in less than 45 days. We shopped around for an agent, and got various rates from 4-5 percent. It's all very negotiable--if the agent feels he/she has a good prospect of selling quickly, they will cut their fee.

Commission rates, like other service products are affected by supply and demand. As more real estate agents entered the market within the past decade, commission rates trended downward. Within the past 18 months, the challenging economic environment in Grand Rapids, MI has forced many agents out of the real estate industry. Those who remain, will charge for services based on what they provide and what a potential client is willing to pay.
In the Grand Rapids, MI area commissions can range from a few hundred dollars to 6 ~7% of the listing price of the home. If you choose to opt for a discount broker, make sure you ask what you are paying for.

Also demand proof and ask for access to people who have successfully Sold their homes when you're comparing Rates with all real estate brokers.

Exposure and professional marketing are huge issues when you're competing with 12,000 homes for Sale. If all you're receiving is the placement of your home on the Multiple LIsting service...well, $500 is A LOT of Money to pay for Data Entry which takes approximately 10 minutes.

Be A Wise Consumer...In this Market, you really do get what you pay for...

I hope that you are finding all of our real estate information helpful on Trulia. I agree with the other two ladies about commission rates in Alger Heights. Commission is based on what you are willing to pay for and like anything what you pay for is what you’re going to get.

6-7% would be accurate. Keep in mind as a buyer or seller you get what you pay for. Lowere commissions mean less marketing and a lesser chance of getting your home sold. We all rely on other Realtors to help sell our properties. If we have nothing to offer the buyers agent we will get nothing in return.

Hi Roger,
Commission rates can vary from a discount broker who doesn't market your property at 4% and simply puts it on the MLS... to 6/7% agents who are actively marketing your listing in the marketplace and able to offer a buyer's agent 3-3.5% to sell your home.
