better than a Sunday? And what are the usual times for an open house?

I would also recommend investing a few dollars in a sign rider that says, "Open House Saturday 1 - 4" (or something like that), and put it out about 3 or 4 days in advance; that way, you will get some additional use out of that sign post in the front yard. You might want to get a couple (one or two different times for Saturday, and maybe one or two different times for Sunday) just to change things up a bit. Hope this helps.

advertise on tuesday, this works good for voters, probably works good for home buyers too.

Advertise on the internet beginning Monday. Buyers look there first. Try advertising Sunday but also in the Fri RE section

I usually advertise the day of the open house in the local classifieds/open house section. People will not remember when and where the open house is if the add runs too soon. Hope this helps

I agree, advertise the day of the open house and do both Saturday and Sunday.
