Sell my home with county tax liens. Part 2

Asked by Jody, Rochester, NY Mon Jan 19, 2009

My home has 2 years of county tax liens, was appraised at $85,000 two years ago, and has no mortgages (I own the home outright). Can I sell it and pay off the county taxes? The county sold the liens to American Tax Funding.

Hi Jody,

Go ahead and sell it as you normally would. At settlement the liens (just like any liens) will be taken care of.
Do not mention this situation to anyone other than your attorney. It is not necessary to disclose this until just before closing. If buyers know of this they will assume you are strapped and perhaps negotiate harder with you. Instead have an air of confidence that you ( unlike the masses) own the property outright.

All the best,
