Yes, Edison township smoke and CCO inspection will need to be updated since each certificate has an expiraton date. Smoke inspection will cost $35.00 if the request is made within 10 business days of the closing.( 4-10 business days pior = $70, within 4 days = $125) The Certificate of Continued Occpancy will cost $150. Just a tip, schedule the smoke inspection first as they get booked up quickly. The township information can be found on the website below and can be paid online or in person by bank certified funds or money order.

Similar to Smoke inspection, is there a quicker way to get the CCO from Edison township, e.g. with addtional fees for faster processing?

Any transfer of ownership would require the inspections for Certificate of Occupancy. Also rental properties require inspections on a Tenant change.

Yes, in NJ you have to have a new CO when you change owners. They will look for things like the fire and CO detectors along with a fire extinguisher within a certain amount of feet of the kitchen. The town of Edison may also have other specific things that they look for., you will have to check with town hall. Best of luck!

NJ requires that with a change in occupancy a CO must be obtained. So, if you're saying one was done in 2009 when you purchased, you would have to do another one to sell. Edison Twp. does an inspection besides checking the smoke, carbon dioxide & new receipt for the fire extinquisher and their certicate is only valid for 6 months.

You have to check with the county your home is located in.
