How to bid on cleaning services for residential homes?

Asked by Shanda, Raleigh, NC Sun Nov 6, 2011

My husband and I just recently started our own home based cleaning service about 3-4months ago. We are very passionate about this business. We are bonded and insured. We would like to provide services for foreclosed homes, homes for sell by owner, homes for sell by realtor as well as commercial business cleaning. Can anyone offer any feedback on how to go about this?

You could visit the brokerages and sponsor a meeting which will give you a few minutes in front of the group to introduce your business and pass out your contact information. The most important thing you can do is a thorough job when you do get an opportunity and charge a fair price.

You're right, once people see that you are doing a good job, the word will get spread around. If you are charging a fair price for you work as well, you'll attract a lot more customers. Starting a cleaning business can be tricky, but it can really pay off if you go about it right. I hope that everything goes well for you guys though. http://rainbowpropertymaintenance.com

Congratulations on starting your own business! I would call around to local cleaning services around your area and see what they charge. This can help you get a base of what you should charge. Good luck and I hope everything works out for you! http://www.jrjanitorialservice.com

Charging a fair price and I might add, out-bidding your competitors. That may mean less profits to start with, but you need clients. After you get rolling and develop a good reputation for your cleaning services, you can up your prices with demand.

I didn't know that people held bids for companies. There are a lot of HOA's that might be interested in a service like that. Have you thought about talking to some of the associations in your area? Maybe they would be interested in something you have to offer. http://www.empiresaide.com/residential_cleaning.html

I would love to have a janitor come and clean my home. It is so big and just takes me too much time. How much do they usually charge to do this? Would they be willing to come more than once a week? I just really like my house clean. http://www.jonesboysonline.com/Janitorial-Service-Seattle.html

I can understand how you're so passionate about this type of business. I congratulate you and you're husband on the service that you've created! I think trying to come and get you're name out there would help you with your business. Having more people know who you are will help with being hired more often. http://www.springscleaning.net/18801.html

It looks like we are all on the same page. I really can't stand cleaning bathrooms, and it would be really nice to have a janitor clean it up for me. Our house is pretty large, so it seems like as soon as one room is finally clean, another room in the house gets dirty. I would hire a janitor for sure if I had the money. http://www.paramountjanitorialservices.com

I'm with you on that one Jordan. It would be really nice to have a cleaning service come to take care of your house. They charge different amounts depending on the kind of flooring that you have and other factors like that. You could call someone to get an estimate. http://skg.net.au

I would really love to hire a house cleaning service. I have such a busy life with work and family that cleaning is often put on the back burner. It would be great to have some help with the basics of home cleaning. Thanks for sharing this information! http://americanhousekeepingutah.com/our-services/

I don't know much about foreclosed or commercial cleaning, but I do know a lot about student housing and apartments, if you're looking to break into that market. Every university and college I've visited has message and advertisement boards. They're usually somewhere in the student center building. Posting an ad there is one of the best ways to get noticed in a college town.

I agree that cleaning student housing and apartments would be a very good market to get into. Even though the property managers make the tenants clean at every turnover, the apartments still get in pretty bad shape. Therefore, there is probably a lot of profit to be made there. The tenants themselves may even pay you to clean for them when they are moving out.

There are some really great house cleaning services in Miami FL that have done very well. It would be helpful to contact them or any other good companies not in your area and see if they have suggestions.
