Checking with the local real estate board is one method - but those statistics can be based on 2007 home sales. It's best to find out who is actively selling homes in the past 90 days. Some realtors only work part time or part of the year. Are you interested in agents that their listings sold or buyers representatives with the most sales. My recommendation is that you find an active agent with recent listings sold.

Your local Real Estate Board office should be able to provide that statistical information to you. Most agents who are top producers are very earger to advertise this information in weekly or monthly print publications as well. Be mindful, though, that even though an agent may be the 'top producer' in listing or sales for any given month that overall experience should be weighed as well. Your specific property type should direct your focus, so you should consider seeking out an agent who specializes in that type of listing. Do your research and when you have a short list of potential agents, take the time to interview them. Even those who look good on paper may not be the one most compatible with your personality or perspective on the issues most important to you. Ultimately that's what may count the most in negotiations. Good luck to you!
