Asked by Valerie loewen, Englewood, CO Wed Jul 15, 2009

I know selling a home can be tough....but here is a little tip that will help keep the shower scum down.....
House Hold Tips
Scum-Proof Shower Doors - To keep glass shower doors shiny and clear, use a soft cloth moistened with baby oil. It prevents scum build-up from dirt and soap and hard water spots won’t appear for several months.

Thank you for the tip about using baby oil on glass shower doors. The door in my master bathroom is always filthy. I clean it every week, but the scum always returns with a vengeance. I have a little baby oil in my closet, but I don't have any babies. I might as well use it on my shower door.

I think having glass doors is a great way to help keep your house look cleaner! It's a great tip. I also think it's a great way to help your house feel more open. I personally love the feeling glass doors create in a house.

I have never heard of using baby oil to keep shower doors clean. Would this work for frameless shower doors as well? My wife and I are looking to install new shower doors in our home and are leaning towards frameless options. I would like to keep them as clean as possible since we might be moving in the next year.

I never would have guessed to rub my shower doors with baby oil. It's important to keep your shower doors clean and clear. They are the first thing that is seen by someone who walks into the bathroom. If they're covered in hard water spots it just makes the whole room look unmaintained.…

I think it's a good idea to get glass shower doors, but like you said you need to get the kind that doesn't collect scum. If anything you just need to get something that will clean the glass doors off. It's important to clean them, because they can start to look pretty gross pretty fast. Glass doors are supposed to look classy not gross.

Furniture polish also works very well...water rolls right off.

I've never tried the baby oil trick. Thanks for the tip. I have used an after-shower spray that usually works pretty well. I'll tell my wife about the baby oil and see if she wants to agree to give it a shot.

I've been looking for a tip like this for a while now. I have some scum that's stuck on my shower doors. Nothing seems to make it some off. I'm hoping this will be the last tip I need. I really just want some sparkly clean shower doors.

Great tip! Like toothpaste or cucumbers rubbed on the bathroom mirror to prevent fogging up. I'm a fan of the Magic Eraser and Purple Power. CLR, too.

Love the natural tips though!!

That's a super helpful tip. I was thinking I would have to get brand new shower door because of all the scum. I think I'll try you solution before I go ahead and buy a new shower door. If it works it will save me a lot of money.
