Curious to know if the school system is decent, husband may be transferring in 2013 have a 5 year old and 3 year old. Want to know about the schools

Asked by lawrencemonica, Hershey, PA Fri Nov 30, 2012

are they average, below, or above average. Are there any schools that should be avoided due to the area, low test scores, building in bad shape. Also is the kindergarten program full or half day.

My children have attended schools in Elizabethtown, Lower Dauphin and Derry Township. (Hershey). Derry township school district is well known as the top in the area. In my experience the difference is night and day to any district in the area.

For schools you always need to do your own research the school reports are on the internet for all schools see the answer below for your area, which the agent below me was kind enough to give you.
Furthermore I always tell my clients, children are all different, with different needs and different interests therefore the parents need to check out the schools and determine which ones are best for their children and then look for a new home within that preferred school district...

Good luck to you and enjoy your 5 and 3 year olds, such a fun age.

Hi! I can tell you my children go to Derry Township school district. The KR is half day, however there are a few full day KR options in the area (St.Joan of Arc and I believe KinderCare offer full day, and there is one in Palmyra as well, which is close). For test scores, ratings etc please visit http://www.schoolmatters.org and you can also visit the district website at http://www.hershey.k12.pa.us for info on KR thru 12th grades.
I find it convenient that KR-12, while they are in seperate buildings, are all on the same street right in a row with easy access close to downtown.
I hope this info helps!! Let me know if I can help you with anything else!
