Can I promote the sale of my home in addition to what my Realtor is doing?

Asked by Stephanie Gerbig, 48188 Thu Feb 19, 2009

I'm a communicator, so I'm very much into using social networking for publicity. I'd like to promote the sale of my home through some of the sites. However, I would be doing this on my own behalf and not through my Realtor. Is this proper?

Piggybacking on Maureens answer. Your home shows up several thousand times in a simple Google search. This compares to less than 30 for some homes I've seen.

I would agree, follow your contract and speak with Andy to see what social networking sites the home's already advertised on, perhaps you have some that are not being used. It is possible for the wrong information to be placed online that makes your home harder to sell. It's hard to take it back once it's on the internet.

Absolutely!!! It would be best to coordinate with your Realtor what your doing. You should discuss this with him. Andy is a very good Realtor, he will advise you regarding what you should and should not say to prospective Buyers.

Great question, and initiative on your part! To preface, hopefully you hired someone that shares your vision for what should be done to market your home. In the event that is not the case, here is my recommendation... you certainly should be able to! BUT, make sure to read your exclusive right to sell contract and adhere to that verbiage. For instance, the broker is likely protected and owed a commission if anyone is procurred as a result of the broker, OR YOUR EFFORTS. You may be prevented from putting certain signage up, etc., but likely not prevented from giving the house exposure. Importantly, speak with your agent and reach an agreement.

There is no substitute for exposure today, that is for sure! Best wishes.
