We all want to make lots of money, but it doesn't define who I am.
I'm worth more than every penny I will ever make, so to put it in those terms is just asinine. (no offense.)
IMHO, for those of you who believe that those who cut their commission are incapable of negotiation strategy, you've got it completely backwards. It shows flexibility. I truly hope that if/when you find yourself in a moment of need, you don't meet yourself.
I take an altruistic/humanist approach. If someone is in need, why not? I have done it before, I'm sure I will do it again...because I am a giver. That's why I am in the service industry. Sometimes agents are at the mercy of their broker, or their pride, whichever the case may be-- this business is about negotiation.
