If you are looking for affordable homes in a wooded area, then go to Bushkill. I honestly wouldn't consider it a great place to raise a family because there isn't much to do there and it isn't the best school system.

As a resident of the area, let me just say this... if you are an outdoorsman and love the convenience of the river, the woods and hiking trails for your outdoor activities, then YES! Bushkill is great place to live. However, if you want to be closer to town, stores and conveniences, then NO it is not the place for you. When my husband and I bought up here, we didn't mind the corner market not being close by, we didn't mind that we had to drive into town to do our shopping and we still don't. Just ask yourself if "country-living" is what you want. Peace and quiet, wildlife meandering through your yard, "night sounds" and just a peaceful living. If it's not, then search the areas in and around Stroudburg within city limits. Country living is not for the faint of heart so do your research thoroughly.

You can find some really fantastic real estate prices in Bushkill. However, you may find better school districts north and east of Bushkill. Though the housing market is slightly higher in price, it remains reasonable.

Years ago I "demonstrated" small appliances for a major manufacturer in department stores and other retail outlets. If the blender had a long cord, I talked about the convenience of being able to move it from place to place without unplugging. If it had a short cord I could sell its safety features--not too long to be a dangling cord hazard. So when someone asks if 'so & so ' is a good place to live, or raise a family I always wonder what it is they are looking for.
Are you looking for cultural events and museums, the close proximity of shopping malls and supermarkets that come with a larger town or city?? Or are you looking for the gentler pace and rural ambiance of a very small town or country living?? As Russell noted, the air may be cleaner and the grass greener there(Sell safety:)), but the trade off may be some corresponding lack of 'convenience.

Hope that helps

I've visited the Bushkill area a few times for weekend getaways. The house where I stayed was right across the street from a small lake. Woods and hills are everywhere. Very clean and quiet. The air is clean and fresh. The water in the lake was so clear, you could see the bottom of the lake 20 feet away. Beautiful nature and scenery.

Not sure how the real estate market is there, but the area is beautiful.
