where can I get house insurance on a home that was built in 1946 in North Fort Myers that is logical and economical?

Asked by Phoenix052, North Fort Myers, FL Tue Dec 18, 2012

I currently pay 290 for my interest and principal on my morgage but I pay almost 300 just for my insurance. I just got notice that I had a shortage in my escrow and they need to raise my payments to my escrow by another 65.00 every month. I will have to go into foreclosure if I can't figure this out.

Hello,
You may want to try a big nationally known insurance company like Farmers, or American Family. With the bigger companies you can insure your house, vehicle, and other things. By having them with all one company they will qualify you for discounts and provide competitive rates. Best of luck!

I have had great success with Holly Messinger with Horace Mann Insurnace.
Also, you may inquire about a wind mitigation inspection. You may find there are discounts on your insurance you are not receiving. Here is her contact info:

Sorry to hear about your situation - insurance can get very expensive on older homes and Citizens is sometimes the only one who will insure them. If you are short on escrow you will still have to pay anything your lender paid out that your escrowed funds weren't sufficient to cover so just changing carriers isn't a total solution. Whatever you do you need to consider a short sale over foreclosure. There are numerous benefits to doing a short sale -vs- letting the home be foreclosed on.

I have an insurance contact that may be able to get you a lower premium but it will depend on several things including age of roof, type of windows etc...

Give me a call at 239-707-4575 or email me at leecountyrealtor@earthlink.net and I will be more than happy to help you anyway I possibly can.

How old is your roof? A newer roof will help and you may want to consider having a wind mitigation inspection if you haven't already - that might help get some wind credits and bring your premium down.

Gene Provost at Insurance Megastore has some good providers although the age of the home will definitely restrict your options in Florida.
