Provided that the lot is large enough, and the water district rules allow, a drainage easement can be beautified to become an attractive part of the landscaping. Hardscapes such as bridges, rock and boulder placements can create a desirable oasis.

You generally can not build on the easement, so the lot should be large enough to accomodate the housing and garage structure that you desire. Care should be taken that the drainage easement does not become a haven for mosquitoes or other pests.

Specific information will be available at your municipality or county public works, building department, or water department and on their website.
