You've gotten good answers already, but I've linked to another tool that you can use below. It compiles data from law enforcement agencies and is very user friendly.

Hi Deborah.

To get reliable information about crime rates, it's best to go directly to the police department. I've worked with several police officers who have bought and sold real estate with me and would be glad to put you in touch with someone who can answer your questions with authority. If your are interested in buying in Colonial Heights, Fuquay, or anywhere else in the Triangle, give me a shout. I'd be delighted to work with you!

Deborah,
Here is a good site for checking out crime around different addresses in Wake County.
http://www.raleighnc.gov/home/content/Police/Articles/Online…
Once you enter the property address (just street # and name) at the top right side of the screen it will pull up the location. You can then click "Raleigh Crime Search" near the bottom, set the parameter for how far you'd like your search to extend and the results will populate based on type of crime and rough location. You can change your parameters to search for specific times and types of crime.

If I can help you by showing you any properties in the Raleigh area, or answering any real estate questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Many buyers I worked with ask the same question. Since, I do not live in all of the neighborhoods I get questions about, so I can not give the up to date info on all of the areas of the Triangle, so I suggest my clients to call local police department (not 911) and ask for the print out of the latest (usually 30 days) activity report for the area of their interest.
I hope it will help you to find out all the info you are looking for.
