Hello Joe I just answered another one of your questions. I believe Altadena is a very safe city overall but the difference of east versus west of Lake is more of density of housing and perception. Homes are more expensive, expansive and sought after east of Lake. The further west of Lake you get you will find smaller more densely packed homes. But ,as with all generalizations, this is not always true whether you are east or west of Lake. As to safety, you should go to a website that tracks crime statistics and judge for yourself. I have lived in east Altadena, north Altadena, and in the western part of Altadena in the past 30 years and always felt safe in whatever part of Altadena I lived. As a single woman, I believe the friendliness and closeness of my neighbors were key along with the fact that we always looked out for one another. This closeness and friendliness seems to be a common trait of people who chose to live in Altadena. I would recommend that you take time to drive around Altadena and see which areas you are comfortable in. Altadena is small enough that you should be able to see all of it in a few hours.l

Hi! I live and own a house that is currently for sale west of lake. However, it borders on the tip because are actually the very first house west of lake. We have lived here for 2 years and are raising a family and absolutely love it. We have never felt unsafe and really hate to leave our home. Unfortunately, my husbands company is transfering us somewhere else and we have no choice in the matter. I should mention that our house sits on half an acre and is a great value for the size. It is absolutely beautiful and furthermore, it has been used by NBC and other big tv executives several times for photo shoots and brings us a large income every year. I don't know your price range, but you should check it out at coldwell banker. com The address is 835 e woodbury road, altadena ca 91001. Good luck!

East of Lake is definitely a good bet for Altadena, but it is a generalization. You can still find very nice areas and homes West of Lake, especially up North, e.g. La Vina and the Meadows. Of course, all depends on what price range you are looking in. Altadena gives you great value! You can check out http://www.lalife.com for safety and crime statistics.

I would definitely recommend east of Lake and close to the Altadena country club.

East of Fair Oaks should be best. Altadena is like most areas in LA - there are some pockets you will want to avoid and there are some really good pockets.

Hope you find what you are looking for!
