is mobile home a secure place to raise children or is there much negative drama going on in mobile parks?

Asked by Rafael, 01960 Wed Jul 18, 2012

My husband was looking at a mobile home for $99k in Peabody, we drove around it and we didn't like it because of highway yet what can we get for $99k in peabody or elsewhere?

Are this places safe for kids, is there a lot of robberies and crimes going on in this isolated places?

Also, how about fixing an old home and taxes and can it be rented if we need to flee?

Please be honest and direct I and want to know what you think.
Thanks, Diana

Mobile homes are not the same as regular real estate. They are not easily financed, and you don't usually own the land. In any case, your neighborhood is what the people there make it. Drive through and ask those who are walking around. You'll get a great feel for who lives there, what they think of the neighborhood, and neighbors. you might also look for the local police log that a local paper might print in their pages. See what addresses/ areas are mentioned most often.

This is a great time to be buying a home, whether it is a condo, mobile home or single family. The mortgage rates are super low now.
As far as your question about safety and whether there are crimes or robberies in mobile parks; you should ask Peabody police about the crime activity in the parks. They would have the answers for you. You could also speak with a few of the residents of the parks and hear what they have to say.
There are a few single families and condos for sale in your price range. The homes need some work but there are mortgage programs you may qualify for that help you to remodel. There are several two bedroom condos on the market and they are in good condition.
If you are interested in seeing for yourself what is available in Peabody and the surrounding areas, let me know. All I need is your email and you will receive the latest listings daily. I would be happy to assist you in finding a home for your family.

Hi Diana and thanks for posting! There are a handful affordable mobile parks available in the Peabody area and you must make the decision for yourself if mobile home living is the right choice for you. Driving around and checking them out as well as talking to the people who live there is probably your best way to get a realisitc idea. With that being said there are few "fixer-upper" type properties in Peabody and Salem in the $100-150k range. If you'd like more info on these please send me an email Any home can be rented in the case you need to leave for some reason.

Hello Diana,

For a budget of $99,000, you can find several options for your new home, including 2 bedroom condos in Peabody or the surrounding area. Condo prices are very low and buying will only require $3,500 down in your price range, which is usually about the same amount down you need for an apartment if you have to pay first, last and security. In addition, your monthly payment, including mortgage, interest, taxes, condo fee and condo insurance is usually less than your rent per month. You do get to deduct the interest you pay on your mortgage off your taxes at the end of the year and get some of that money back.

Your very first step is to get pre-approved for a mortgage. You can pick from the multitude of lenders available, banks, mortgage companies and more, to know if you can purchase rather than rent.

Once you do that, your next step is to pick a realtor who can help you find what you are looking for that is within your price range.
