By the way, I thought we were talking about a hypothetical 4%. If the tax amount in Frisco is in question, it is:

Collin County:

City ISD County Total
Frisco 0.450000 1.350000 0.331984 2.131984


Denton County:

City ISD (assuming LISD) County Total
Frisco 0.450000 LISD - 1.370000 0.235890 2.055890

Here is a simple way to explain the homestead exemption courtesy of Denton CAD FAQs:

Homestead exemptions remove part of your home's value from taxation, so they lower taxes. For example, your home is appraised at $50,000, and you qualify for a $15,000 exemption, you will pay taxes on the home as if it was worth only $35,000.

Hi Nora,

Frisco taxes are not 4%, they are around 2-3%, depending on the area of Frisco, and it is divided into two counties, Collin & Denton Counties. Are you thinking of moving to the Plano/Frisco area? You can file homestead exemption in January. Also, on properties we send you - you can see the unexempt values on the taxes of the properties in dollar amount. Here are the county appraisal district websites for the counties you are considering:

http://www.collincad.org and http://www.dentoncad.org

Be sure to ask the person you are working with if they are a REALTOR themselves. A REALTOR subscribes to a certain cannon of ethics which are over and above a licensee who promises loyalty, ethics and honesty!

I wasn't aware any part of Frisco is 4%? What I will tell you? Schools are plentiful and EXCELLENT! There are medical facitities where ever you are living! Shopping, hotels, Pizza Hut and Dr.pepper? I am an implant here almost 5 years. The Growth is great! The roads, they finish quite quickly! I have lived in many different places, New york, Las Vegas, Florida and now Texas. Texas definately gives you a lot for the buck! It is an Excellent place to live and raise a family!

I can send you a list of tax rates for Frisco area if you would like them as well as other area cities. I don't think they are over 4% anywhere in Frisco. That sounds high to me. Normally more around 3%.

FYI Frisco is in two counties, Collin higher tax base vs. Denton.

Hi Nora,

I just blogged about the homestead exemption for Frisco, Collin County and surounding areas the other day. It doesn't lower your taxes by a percentage, it just reduces your tax appraised value on which you pay taxes. Please see the link below.
