Contact a real estate agent that can help you check your credit, write a letter of explanation of why your credit is in that condition and, best of all, get into a rental that you can afford.

Talk with the owner or management company of the home you are interested in renting. Tell them up front your credit is not so good and the reason your credit is not good. If you have 1st and last months rent payable; tell them you are willing to pay with cashiers check monthly. In this economy almost everyone has not so great credit and owner's are willing to give renter's a chance. Again depending on your situation.
