Neither. It has Evergreen zip code but is across 101 from Santa Teresa Park(Bernal). Schools are Oak Grove.

While safety is important, every neighborhood in America got a concern. For example, Monta Vista has shoot out, domestic help killed home owner, bank rubbery... The homes are one of the most expensive neighborhood in America.
You want to live in a newer development with open space Basking Ridge would be the neighborhood. The issues are home owners bought home during the peak. Until unemployment, underwater issues are resolved.

I have lived in the Basking Ridge neighborhood for over three years and have mixed feelings about it. One one hand I the neighborhood is in close proximity to the freeway (without feeling like it is literally right next to the freeway), is near walking/bike trails, and has a feeling of being near nature. I have often spotted deer, turkey, fox, skunks, snakes, while out on a walk. The grocery store, banks, Oakridge Mall, etc are within a few minutes drive. On the other hand, in the past year, there has been a steady increase in the number of crimes committed in the neighborhood including mail theft resulting in check forgery, thefts of cars, thefts of items from cars, and of homes being broken into. It is to the level I am concerned for the safety of my family and I am seriously considering moving out of what once used to be an idyllic neighborhood.

It depend on what you are looking for. You can get a nice home for the price. Agents list the homes as Evergreen and as Santa Teresa, so if you are searching for homes you will want someone who knows to expand their search. The elementary school has decent scores. You can get anything from a condo up to a large home. My client who lived there enjoyed it very much.

It's true the mail theft and car break-in's are a problem. Recently there have been garbage and recycling scavengers. I fear identity theft....
On another note, if you want to pay 500,000 + for a condo that is next to a driveway that has been turned into a playground with screaming children and rude parents. This IS the place for you. Oh and the renter/owner ratio is obviously a problem....which contributes to the entitled attitude of the rude parents.

Rock,

I have lived in both Basking Ridge and Silver Creek Country club which has the zip codes and both are great areas to me until now that I am living in San Francisco. It is true there has been theft, mail missing in and theft and has been happening off and on since late 2005 in both Ranch at Silver Creek and Basking Ridge. We were not personally affected but some firends and clients have unfortunately. It is a good area however I have noticed that the increase in crime committed such as theft is also affecting several parts of SJ, Cupertino, LG...it is the economy and people going crazy over not having money and amounting to theft. My point is, it is advisable that you do get an alarm wherever you may decide to live.

i would install an alarm. too close to urban... with an open space and homes so close to each these cluster homes could be subject from out of the area people. I would use CrimesreportS.com to confirm the crime concern.

thanks for your answers. sound like installing a security device is a must in this area. Is it possible the crime has anything to do with homeowners being underwater? It is a good area for the price range and one can get a newer home in a new neighbourhood with parks and opens pace.

Rock!!

We actually had some friends who lived in the area and loved the community as well. They said that is was a little community in itself as they had different family events like Bar-B-Q's and a neighborhood fairs all summer. The elementary school has a large group of parent volunteers and is dedicated to servicing just the Basking Ridge homes.

Should you need off-line help viewing and selecting a Basking Ridge Home please let me know!

You can get a very nice home for less money than you would pay in other parts of San Jose.

However the schools do leave something to be desired.
