Meet with a few agents, see if they only work part time, have references from other clients, and have any other educational degrees which may augment their base of knowledge of the real estate market. Have them show you a few houses, and see if these houses have any connection to the type/price/location of homes you want. Ask if they will only show you their or their company's listings so they can avoid splitting commissions, or will they show you every house listed which fits your needs.
