Rather than relying on opinions, why not consider a test run....

Hello Shannon,

I am a resident of Cold Spring Harbor and my boys attend the Junior and Senior High School.
I am a former NYC Commuter and my husband still commutes to downtown NYC daily.

You can access LIRR train schedules on the MTA website @ http://www.mta.info to see what coordinates with your work schedule. If you have any other questions about the area, please contact me.

There's an approx travel time of about 1 hour and 17 minutes
From NEW CANAAN STATION take the STAMFORD STATION bound Metro-North Train.
Transfer to the GRAND CENTRAL TERMINAL STATION BOUND Metro-North Train.
Than you have arrived at GRAND CENTRAL TERMINAL STATION in NYC.
Use the TripPlanner MTA website, it helps you plan your commutes.

Hi Shannon
The LIRR (Long Island Rail Road) has a train stop in Cold Spring Harbor. The express train goes to Penn Station in about 50 minutes. If you have to drive to Manhattan rush hour mornings about 1hour 15minutes to midtown.

The express train to Penn Station is 50 minutes. Not a bad parking situation compared to many stations.
