Outside of getting a referral from someone whose opinion you trust there are a few ways to weed through the crowd. Interview a few and find a comfortable fit, someone who seems to care about you as an individual and not just a statistic. Look at their educational designations, you know those funny letters that follow their title. More is not better but look at the quality. CRS- Certified Residential Specialist requires many hours of classes, a big dollar investment and a number of years of experience to accumulate the transactions needed to qualify for the designation. GRI- Graduate of the Real Estate Institute is another long time committment and big investment. There are others and you can research them on line but at the very least you will know that these people are committed to excellence and have an investment in their business.
I would also suggest that you find someone who is a long time resident of the area and who focuses within a reasonable geographic distance. Best of luck to you! Sharon
