The world is a crazy place, one can never be too careful no matter where you live.

One should always be aware of their surroundings, not have their ipods on nor be always on the cell.

When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local police department with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors. Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods.

We cannot comment of safety in any neighborhood. My recommendation is to walk around and see how you feel.

Best Of Luck.

I think the city is the city so you always have to be aware of your surroundings. I lived downtown for many years without incident. I would walk all over North End , South End , Kenmore etc .. I think it is a personal comfort level.

There are all sorts of iphone and Andriod apps you can use to map crime and review statistics. You may also want to check with the Boston Police Department and also review websites like blockavenue.com.

Good luck

It's really a personal thing. I find Boston pretty safe compared to many other large cities. That being said being personally aware of your surroundings and use common sense. Also your physical size might make you a more attractive target. I don't think a small/slim person flashing consumer goods or jewelry in any major city wouldn't be an easy target. Consult with the local police cops to find out what types of street crimes they encounter on a day to day basis. They're the experts on crime, dealing with it all the time. I've always found the Boston police very approachable, willing to help and explain things. Your mileage may vary. Granted I'm 5'11 and practice Krav Maga but it's mostly being aware of where I am and what's going on around me.

Hope that helps,
