This is likely because they prefer to be identified with Sarasota .....however, the best source for accurate information would be to confront these individuals personally on the topic.

Are you looking to purchase a home in Lakewood Ranch or the Sarasota area. Here is the link to Lakewood Ranch where you can read more about the community and the different developments- http://www.lakewoodranch.com/

I also live in Manatee County and have a mailing address of Sarasota. University Parkway is the county line. Lakewood Ranch is on both sides of University Parkway and has several zip codes. Lakewood Ranch started as a 36,000 acre development about 15 years ago. There are still several ranches on the property that have not yet been developed. Most of Lakewood Ranch lies on the east side of Interstate Highway 75, however, a small portion of Lakewood Ranch lies on the west side of the interstate. There has been several legal efforts toward incorporating Lakewood Ranch as a municipality but they have fallen short. I predict that Lakewood Ranch will be a municipality within five (5) years.

Lakewood Ranch has such a strong identity in this area, most people I know who live there say they're from Lakewood Ranch, not Bradenton or Sarasota. Initially they had a Bradenton mailing address, but that changed a couple years ago to Lakewood Ranch. Most people think it's just a matter of time before they incorporate and become their own jurisdiction.
