Dear Gentry,

My son-in-law is a 4th year med student at MUSC and he loves living West of the Ashley in the Avondale area but there are a large number of alternatives. Let me know how I can help!

Best regards,

Cheryll

There are four areas that are the close to downtown - Mt Pleasant, West Ashley, downtown Charleston and James Island. All are close and nice areas - just depends on what type of neighborhood you like and what your price range is. As far as condos go, Mount Pleasant or James Island would be ideal. If you are looking more for a house, if price is a consideration, then James Island or West Ashley would be better. Mt Pleasant has great homes but it is more expensive. Downtown is going to be the most expensive option.

Let us know if we can help.

Downtown Charleston would put you within walking distance to the MUSC campus. You can view homes for sale on a map at http://www.searchforcharlestonrealestate.com/downtown-charle… Or, you may consider some of the nearest condo/townhouse communities on James Island: Mira Vista (http://www.searchforcharlestonrealestate.com/james-island-re…), The Regatta (http://www.searchforcharlestonrealestate.com/james-island-re…), and Meridian Place (http://www.searchforcharlestonrealestate.com/james-island-re…).

Morning,

I recently listed a three bedroom apartment (second floor of a duplex home) for rent downtown a few blocks from MUSC. Let me know if you would like more information.

There are many condo units for rent along with homes. James Island, West Ashley, north of the crosstown in downtown Charleston are some great options.

I would think that Mt. Pleasant like Baytree would be good. Also, off of 61 in West Ashley near Ryan's Steakhouse and Home Team BBQ. Downtown is too expensive for most.

Gentry -
I own a great 2 bedroom condo at Fenwick Hall on John's Island that was just listed for rental, only 12 minutes to downtown, $1150 per month, garage, ground floor, community pool, quiet. See link below and let me know if you have other questions.

I have a new listing in Mira VIsta - a gated condo community that is minutes away from downtown Charleston. It is popular with students. The address is 1336 Telfair Way, Charleston, SC 29412. It has 3 Br 2 baths with split floor plan that separates the bedrooms.Take a look online and call or email if interested. Andie Weathers. aweathers@carolinaone.com

As a Medical Student you will want to live downtown near MUSC or possibly James Island. Downtown is preferable because you will want to be close to the school. Summer Gross Anatomy can keep you up pretty late - I know because I did it!

Gentry,

If you are looking for convenience, I would recommend buying or renting in the Harleston Village or Radcliffeborough areas of Charleston. Both areas are close to MUSC and could be easily walked or biked too.

I would be glad to send you a list of available homes and condos for sale or rent in those areas or any others. Just say the word.

Sincerely,
