While the rule of thumb is 2% of the sales price.... Don't count on it. You need to look at the county data website to be a little more accurate.
While a home might be priced at $100,000..... it's 'assessed value' could vary greatly.

Check with the county tax assessor. I have lists for all counties in the Central Texas and the different tax rates that was just updated last month so if you are interested email me and I will forward you a copy.

You can take the appraised value of the home times $2.0807 and then divide that by $100 to get an close estimate. For example: (($150.000 x $2.0807) / $100) = $3,121. For more information, take a look at Tyler Economic Development Council website: http://www.tedc.org/profile/pro_taxes.php
