What programs and groups for young parents does Petaluma have?

Asked by Janice, Petaluma, CA Wed Feb 12, 2014

My husband and I have a beautiful 10 month old baby and are going to relocate to in or around Petaluma shortly for my job. Would love any feedback on groups for babies or young parents.

Hi there Janice! My son/business partner Jeremy and his wife Elisa have a 4 year old and a two year old, and have done extensive research into groups for young parents and infants up to 2 or 3 years old.

Below is not a complete list by any means, but I am happy to share this valuable information with you and your husband (and your 10 month old too, of course!) of some of the best groups and classes that Petaluma has to offer. If I can be of any more assistance to you, feel free to email (peg@pegking.com) or call 707.769.4328.

Mini Music (Wed at 3 and 4pm) best music class EVER. We've been attending since Scarlett was 6mo and are still going 3 years and another kid later!

Little Bugs Open Gym class at REG starting at 1yr.: Drop in $12 or $40/mo for unlimited

Adventures in Rhythm Drum Class
This is fun because it is drop in, my kids and I go a few times a season and that seems to be the perfect amount of drumming :)

Petaluma Mothers Club- if you join you have access to their forum for age appropriate play groups, moms groups, etc.

Kinder Kickz Soccer class is available starting at 18mo.
Totally cute and totally worth it, we did it last session and it exhausted my kids!

At 18mo, you HAVE to sign up for Mommy & Me at Springhill Montessori- It is SUCH an amazing program. By far Grady's favorite hour of the week!

Petaluma LIbrary Story Time Schedule:

Also, Babytime and Wiggle and Giggle at Rohnert Park Library is worth a visit, super cute:

Cool website to sign up for- gives weekly events updates for Petaluma:

We do a morning at the Discovery Museum down in Sausalito at least once a month.

We are really looking forward to the Sonoma County Childrens Museum grand opening this spring!

Hi Janice,
As you can see from the great info Peg provided, Petaluma has so much to offer for families with young children and it is an outstanding place to raise a family. As a transplant from San Francisco ten years ago, the major piece that has really helped this town feel like home to me was joining the Petaluma Mothers' Club http://www.petalumamothersclub.org.

When my husband and I moved here, I knew very little about the town and my nearest friends were in Santa Rosa and San Francisco. Shortly after having our daughter in 2008, I joined the club. Going to my very first playgroup felt a little bit like psyching myself up for the first day at a new school but I'm so glad I took that step.

That first day, I met some really amazing women with babies very close in age to my daughter. And almost every week since then, until our kids started Kindergarten last Summer, our playgroup met at peoples houses, parks, playgrounds and coffee shops around town. My closest girlfriends in town came from that group. Our husbands are now very close friends and my daughter has friends she hangs out with regularly whom she has known since she was 6 months old. It's pretty amazing how this group has impacted our lives.

The really wonderful thing is that now, I get to do this all over again with my son, who is 9 months old. I now am getting to know another great group of moms and their kids in his Babies of 2013 playgroup. We meet weekly but also have special family weekend activities to get the working moms and dads involved. It's a lot of fun. If you'd like more specifics, feel free to give me a call. I'd love to chat and hope to see you at one of our get togethers.

Beyond just the playgroups, the club offers many resources, community discounts and support for moms from pregnancy through the child's age of 5. I recommend joining before you get here. I can't say enough wonderful things about this club. It has greatly enhanced my Petaluma experience in so many ways.

You're going to love this town!

Cities offer buying incentives for certain groups and families. If you haven't looked into that you should. It can save you some money on taxes. Just email me if you have any other questions or concerns.
