Bald Head Island has "environments" more than "communities." In essence, being only 3 miles long, the whole island IS the community. But the different environments on island are distinctive. You can choose a home in the Harbour Village (by the Marina), in the Maritime Forest, overlooking the marsh or, of course, beachfront or beach view.
Having said that, the original developer did create several separately named communities. The most distinctive is Cape Fear Station on the east end of the island. Cape Fear Station has a common area where events are held and neighbors can gather. The homes are close together with white picket fences, creating the feel of an "old" neighborhood and giving homeowners more of a sense of community.
There are other separately named communities, including "Flora's Bluff" which is a collection of similarly styled homes on a bluff overlooking the ocean. If you love the east end of the island, and the serenity of the marshes, you should see "Middle Island Plantation." For the most complete information on Bald Head Island, be sure to visit
