What is going on in Woodbury market?

Looks like lots of new homes on the market - we were looking in Minnetonka, but the choices and $/SqFt look much stronger in the east. I've read that some developments are getting run-down with so many renters and short-sales.

You defiantly can get a lot more for your money on the east end of town. I would say the pricing on the east side (as well as the traffic!) is significanly lower in most suburbs, and Woodbury is one of the very best places to be! Awesome schools, great people, shopping, highways, etc. And, you can cross the river into Wisconsin and sit out on the patio on the river for lunch in about 15 minutes of driving!

Angela has some good points. Particularly the river lunch at places like Pier 500 in Hudson.

It's been a year since this question has been posted, so I thought I'd update you on the Woodbury Market. Average home prices have increased by about 10% in the past year, although luxury home prices in Woodbury have remained fairly flat.

Builders in Woodbury have many lots available, with a couple of new neighborhoods now underway. You can get a lot more for your money on the east side of the Twin Cities, and if you are have kids, you can't beat the schools here. Woodbury also offers a lot of recreational opportunities for families. From the fantastic parks and recreation systems to the athletic clubs, Woodbury has everything you are looking for. It was ranked #11 in Money Magazine's list of Best Places to Live" in 2012!

As a 25 year resident of Woodbury, I would say our housing market has and is doing very well. Every area took a hit with the housing crash of a few years ago, however, I feel Woodbury did better than most. Woodbury has a unique mix of homes, Parks, trails, Schools, business, shopping and entertianment that makes it very desirable. With my wife we have raised 4 children and have participated in Woodbury Schools, WAA Athletics, School Board and City Council to help preserve and better the quality of life here.

Since you are apparently interested in new construction, I would concur that you might be able to pay less per sq ft and land costs in the Woodbury area. I have lived there myself, actually having built a new home in the early 2000's. I found it very convenient to either MPLS or St Paul - it is a very quick trip to the Ordway, Landmark Center, Xcel for culture, history or sports in St Paul. Several of my friends and relatives live in the are and work near downtown MPLS and find the 494 to 94 or even 694 commutes fairly easy. I hope you will choose a good agent from our pool of experts and get any help you might want to discern the area information, its assets and financial and value potential. Liz 612-986-4105
