What colour furniture would appear best-in a white flat?

Asked by Naurul, USA, Mobile, AL Thu Jun 13, 2013

I am getting into a brand new flat in two or three weeks, and I am planning to go purchase a group of new furniture. But I am not-too certain regarding what colour furniture (couch, tables, dinette, etc.) I ought to obtain. What will go great with a flat with partitions which are white, and carpeting that's kind of-a "dirty" white, but white however.

An all-white flat is a beautiful way to set up-and easily change-the style of your home. (Think of all of those all-white Apple ads!)

You can choose a monochromatic (cream, off-white, white) furniture and use artwork, throws and pillow to change the mood.

White with red and a little black is a classic look that can go retro (think large red, black & white silkscreens of Marilyn Monroe) or ultra-modern like Ikea.

Put in a large impressionist painting and add soft yellow, aqua and lavender for a serene look.

While many magazines will recommend bold colored furniture, unless you absolutely love a particular color, stick with neutrals-cream, beige & black and use art, flowers, throws and pillows to easily change the look and feel of your new home. Enjoy!

Too much white would remind me of a hospital, although some hospitals are warming to some color.

A "pop" of color would be most welcome. Perhaps you have a favorite painting -- you can use that to set the stage and accessorize accordingly.

Start with your style -- do you like modern (such as Swedish), or classic (such as Queen Anne).

You probably should visit a few stores to see what appeals to you. You can even browse decorating magazines to get some ideas before you buy anything. Fortunately, there are a lot of resources.

Good luck

Visit different furniture stores, when you find furniture and décor that you love it ask management to let you speak with the store decorator. In most furniture stores, they have decorators that can help you to visualize the furniture in your home.

Decorators are great to suggest colors, pictures, accessories, window treatments and what kind of furniture will look great in your place.

Best of Luck,

With everything neutral, you have a blank slate which can take any color. The best rule of thumb would be to think in terms of threes. Choose your main color for big items like sofas or bedspread and add moderate amount of a second color with small amounts of a third color. Wood shades, beige, brown, black or grey are considered neutral so these colors would not play into a color scheme. If you lean towards cool colors, imagine blues and greens with a splash of red, orange or yellow. If you like warm colors select golds, brick, cinnamon with splashes of greens or blues. I hope this helps.

Ii like nice antique wood furniture, but the trend among the young is all white and off white furnishings with a few scattered wooden pieces. Mostly painted or stressed furniture with very little color here and there. Light blue green walls with stark white trim. Pintrest is a popular site for ideas.

Any color may proceed with it because white is a color. For this reason most leases walls are painted white. Select furniture that represent your personnality. Would you enjoy contemporary or nation??? Have an enjoyable time buying and congratulations on your own transfer.
