What can anyone tell me about the East Oak Lane neighborhood? ( 70th Ave vicinity) My son will be attending high school. Is it a high crime area?

Hi Debbie,

There are very nice sections of East Oak Lane. Let's not forget there may be some fine charter schools you may be able to send your son.

There are many good resources mentioned below. Trulia itself offers some good information on neighborhoods. Just type in an address and search. You'll see the bottom left of the screen will give you info on topics and various ratings.

Good luck with your move.
All the best,

East Oak Lane is a lovely, beautiful neighborhood with fantastic architecture and wonderful green space. It hosts a committed community of neighbors who participate in many of its organizations and committees such as the award winning East Oak Lane Town Watch, its strong Civic Association, OLCAA, The Oak Lane Tree Tenders, and the Friends of Oak Lane Library. The newly restored Melrose Park Train Station, located directly adjacent to East Oak Lane, offers neighborhood commuters a quick ride to Center City as well as the Airport on its Regional Rail line.

You can contact your Police district in the exact area of your OaK Lane Interest and ask for a Police Blotter. By doing this you can get the info right from the horses mouth. No Charge.

When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local police department with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors. Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods.

Crime statistics are available on line. Just Google it! Should answer most of your questions. Good Luck.
