Johanna- The Answer to your question is :" Possibly ". The
Zoning for particular property and the " Scope " of
your "project" wil determine. Generally renovations
to existing structuresmay be easier to have considered
than " ad-ons ".
That said, you should consult building officials
BEFORE looking for your house and again once
you have a particular property in mind!

The fastest way to find out whether you can do this is to call the local zoning board. They will tell you what is allowed in any particular neighborhood.

As for building an efficiency in a garage, we often see these in existing homes, and they are in many communities..

You may want to ask your West Palm Beach real estate agent to search for homes that have this particular feature built in.

There are several homes in Lake Worth that have a second, smaller house or cottage on the property and these are all legal. You may want to contact a Lake Worth realtor to check on these.

This depends on where you are interested in purchasing. Generally speaking, this is not an issue in Palm Beach County, but once again, it depends on where you are looking. We would love the opportunity to work with you and even show you some properties that already have the mother in law suite. If we can be of assistance to you, please give us a call. Thank you and have a great day.
