We will be relocating to the Miami area in about 6 months.

Asked by Sheila Baker, Miami, FL Tue Jul 15, 2014

My family will be taking a drastic pay cut to make this transition and was wondering what areas we should be looking at for housing. We typically enjoy urban artsy areas. Any advice would be appreciated.

Miami is a diverse community with many open areas. This city is a melting pot of "artsy" areas. With a good majority of its inhabitants from the Caribbean and South America, there is no lack of vivid, vibrant colors. You are only limited by your ability to meet your financial obligations. You would really need to offer a budget in order to recommend. Urban artsy not many areas.

Midtown, Design District sounds like a place where you would thrive but of course that is purely based on little info you provided. I would check this out and see what kind of feeling you get from parading the area. Just a suggestion.

Hi Sheila,

I'd need some more information to make a more concrete suggestion. (budget, number of people in the household and I'd also suggest considering your commute to work)

That said, I'd recommend checking out Miami design district and midtown. It's home of most of the art galleries in Miami and offers a large number of dinning and entertainment that are locally owned and operated.

The area has gotten a little pricey but there are always great deals to be found

Hi Sheila,

Thank you for your question. I remember relocating my family to Miami several years ago and was confronted with the same concerns. Though exciting and full of promise, we also were overwhelmed finding housing that fit our lifestyle and budget. My wife and I ended up choosing Aventura because of the urban yet neighborly feel of the enclave community...not to mention the A rated schools. As a real estate agent in the area who handles a large number of relocation I always advise my customers to consider their lifestyle... how they envision their time will be most spent in Miami. Both Dade and Broward counties cover a large area. Each neighborhood offers pros and cons. On my website http://www.thecondoshopmiami.com towards the bottom under "Decorus Communities" you can click on the tab for each community that gives a description and community culture. South Florida is a thriving hub which I'm sure you and your family will enjoy. An artsy favorite and home to Art Miami art fair, which takes place during Miami's Art Basel week is Midtown Miami.
