We may be relocating from a norther state to Port Charlotte. However, where would the best family-friendly place be to live?

Asked by sunlady, 48430 Mon May 26, 2014

The max we can spend on a home is $225,000.00. My husband is willing to commute up to 30 minutes to work if we can find the best area to live. Is is better south towards Fort Meyers? How is the traffic for a commute? We are not too familiar with Florida other than the few places we have vacationed. We do want a newer home that is no more than 10 to 15 years old. We want a pool and of course would love to have a view of water if possible. At this point, any advice on a nice area would be appreciated.

You didn't say which town husbands new job is in. That will make a lot of difference when you're talking about commute time. Finding a nice newer pool home under $225,000 is doable, but you can pretty much forget the idea of having waterfront too, for that price. You can search for homes from my website http://www.portcharlottehomesales.com or call me and I can set you up on an automated home search directly from our MLS.

It depends if you want to live in a deed restricted community with homeowner association fees or just a regular neighborhood. North Port and Port Charlotte have homes in your price range. Are you looking to be on a canal or a lake or pond. Port Charlotte would have much less traffic than Ft Myers or Sarasota. Most homes that are on a canal would be in a flood zone and the homeowner insurance would be higher. You can search for homes on my web site at: http://www.tammyhayes.remaxagent.com/. I would be happy to send you some listings from the MLS to review and I can send you general information about buying a home in this area of Florida. I would be happy to help or answer any other questions you may have. Our office is right in Port Charlotte and I live in Port Charlotte.
