What would be a good district for school systems if we are planning to have a family. We are looking for an area where we could also have a sizeable lot of 1-2 acres at least. What town surrounding Amherst would provide us with a decent size house for around 300K.

North Ridgeville and Avon are best bets. You may have an easier time with the land in N. Ridgeville, however, the school district for Avon is rated a 10 out of 10. Higher property taxes and higher home prices in general, but the obvious trade-off is your school system. Avon is located Northeast of Amherst, but an easy highway trip on Rt2/I90. In addition to the great schools, Avon has really come to a head as a family oriented entertaining and shopping hub. Ultimately Avon will give you the best school district, but you may need to think about bumping up the budget to get the amount of land you are looking for. Lastly, I will leave you with a few more cities to chew on: Vermilion (Firelands schools), Wellington, Oberlin (kids who attend Oberlin High School all for years get FREE tution to Oberlin College if they are accepted), and, well, Amherst. Lots of farm land still and the schools are rated 8/10, currently "pay to play" athletics. Good Luck!
