We are interested in a house which back yard boarders to the state park (enter the park via back yard). Is it safe?

I would talk to neighbors. They love to divulge information. Also visit the house when it is dark out and see I there are kids hanging out.

Is it safe from what? No bears or mountain lions here on Staten Island.
Just some deer. And the turkeys all live in Seaview.

Visit the area more than once, then make your determination; real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods.

You might try talking to some of the neighbors and asking about their experiences.

Check out these fine sites

Also call the local neighborhood Police Department if you are still concerned.
