I used to live there... it felt safe to me. I liked it because the houses were smaller and less pretentious than ones in the newer, bigger developments around the Bethel Park area, yet Coverdale had all the same benefits (e.g., good schools, close to a large park, etc.). Coverdale used to be a mining community. About the only "red flag" I'd give it is to make sure via research or home inspection that there isn't a mine under the house. Safety-wise, though, I never had a problem.

When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local police department with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors. Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods.
