Views please on purchasing property in Tahoma

Asked by Heatheragb, Tahoma, CA Sat Jan 14, 2012

we are very keen on a property in tahoma. However notice the neighborhood is quite mixed. From ramshackle to renovated, and very few of the latter. Does anyone have good local knowledge on this area if we purchase as second home/ investment? Thank you.

Hi Heather,
Yes the neighborhood is mixed, The lots are usually 50x 125 . But certain areas are quiet charming especially in the summer. If you would like more information on the neighborhood including photos check this out. http://www.lakehomestahoe.com/tahoma-neighborhood-profile/

If you're still looking, you should take a closer look at this neighborhood especially if you want to be near Lake Tahoe. There are plans for an upscale development at Homewood that would have a positive impact on the value of the neighborhood & I believe you will continue to see remodeling of existing properties as the market comes back & more people take advantage of the current relatively low prices on the west shore.

Hope that helps!

thank you shannon. we ended up buying a lovely place in tahoma and have 'discovered' skiing at homewood. we were amazed by its scope and beauty. this was an extra bonus for us as we hadn't realised how fantastic it is - and just minutes away!

I lived on the west shore in the early 80's. Then, as now, there was not much anywhere at the lake that one could call "affordable". Still, the workers that serve the tourist based economy have to live somewhere, and Tahoma on the west shore and Kings Beach on the north shore are some of the places that the workers live. One advantage, besides being more affordable, is that there are more year round people living in the few areas of the lake that are not astronomically expensive.

thank you jim. we love that there are permanent residents in tahoma. and at just over 3 hours from our bay area, we're in our favorite home as often as possible. we also love the mix of homes on the west shore. we got a wonderful home for a great deal.
