Texas transfer tax?

Asked by Jennifer Grube, Houston, TX Thu Feb 27, 2014

Is there real estate transfer taxes in Texas, and if so in what instances? My smart GFE is telling me no transfer tax, but its not always so smart.

Nope, no transfer tax, not so far. Thank you to the Texas Realtors PAC, TREPAC!

Calif has it & recently my Dad & I sold his home for $665000! let me tell u he got hammered with that Tax hopefully Tx never adds to our Closings. I feel that would be very detrimental to our Economy. Our Taxes are the highest I believe for any of the surrounding States.

Funny that property taxes are capped ... but they get it back (and more) each time a home is sold. It's yet another reason why CA is losing population ... families are exiting (largely due to the outrageous cost of living), older folks are dying off. Don't be surprised if TX and FL surpass CA next census.

Jennifer ...

It's been discussed during several legislative sessions, but has never been enacted. Your GFE is smart after all.
