Sarasota/Bradenton vs. Fort Myers area......tell me why one or the other has the advantage....crime,home prices, pop size, culture all considered.

Asked by Jaime Jaunty, West, TX Thu Feb 21, 2013

I am considering to become a snowbird and know that I prefer the Gulf coast, just not real familiar with the towns south of Clearwater area (which is where I usually vacation). thanks!

Hi Jamie ~ As someone once posted on Facebook: "Ft Myers, FL: Unless you're old, you're going to be bored." (((Giggles))) I live in Sarasota and hear all that all the time. Ft. Myers is often the brunt of old people jokes. From your profile snap, you appear to be a young "over 55." My hunch is you'd probably be happier in or around Sarasota. Just a guess! (((Smiles)))

Crime has no boundries unfortunatly. But when it comes to location the most important issue in real estate Saraota is crown jewel of Fl it don't get any better that here.Starting withSiesta Key voted #1 last yeasr #2 this year and always on the top list. Golfing here is the best of anyplace I have ever seen. When it comes to entertainment no other place can match it we have the opera,. orchestra, aslo theatre, Van Wezel, sevedal independent play houses that put on grerat productions. good restaurants and terrific medical care. Now the bad news you can get alot more for your money in Ft Myers area.but you will be compromising for sure. I( have a friend there and we go often but it is no way a comparision to here. I would be happy to help any way if intereseted.

A lot would depend on your price range and what type of things you like to do. Each area in the Gulf Coast has different things to offer. I would read about the areas on the Chamber of Commerce Web Sites. See what area offers more of what you are looking for and fits within your budget.

I can set you up in the MLS to receive listings automatically if you could send me your search criteria. Then you can compare what types of properties are within your budget. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Here are some web sites to check out:

Sarasota County - http://www.sarasotachamber.com/
Charlotte County - http://www.charlottecountychamber.org/

1st and foremost each area is TOTALLY DIFFERENT jamie
as far as crime, etc... your best bet is to go to each counties website and go to crime states, and all, culture again you have to see it to get a feel for it, gulf prices vary also fyi direct gulf front is still doing well. But your question is really to vague , you are looking at 100-150 miles and 3 hours drive between Clearwater and Ft. Myers
and you know how many towns and city in between
suggest google ft. myers welcome center, same with clearwater, tampa, bradenton, palmetto, st. pete, sarasota , north port, venice, pt. charlotte, do you want me to conitnue
you need to come down here and drive through the area 1st and look and see what works for you
what you like , dislike,etc....
once you get more focused let me know and then i can help, but in that 150 miles difference only looking at about 20-30,000 if not more homes for sale and we need to try and get that down to a realistic number to discuss
heck even the beach feel is different between Clearwater and Longboat and Ft. Myers and all in between
hope this helps
