San Fernando Valley?

Asked by Hdic, Granite Bay, CA Wed May 13, 2009

Is San Fernando Valley a good place to raise a family; I want a nice suburban neighborhood but am not a fan of the overly bling nouvelle riche factor. Are there any good private but non religious schools in the area?

Try West Hills area. This is on the western edge of the SF Valley. It's a nice quiet area that backs up to the foothills. The homes are moderately priced (relative to nearby higher priced areas such as Woodland Hills). West Hills is freeway close, but not saturated with over development. That all depends. There are good areas and some that are not so good. How much can you qualify for? What type of home are you looking for?

Hi Hdic,
There is good and bad in the SFV.
If you are interested in crime you can go to the LAPD website.
Generally speaking, I would suggest if you are raising kids to either go to Santa Clarita Valley or Simi Valley. Simi Valley will result in less traffic.
Price range would have helped in this question.
Areas like Calabasas in the SFV are nice. but close by in Canoga Park is a place I would try to avoid.
I am sure there are more factors like work and other social activities.
I suggest you do a few weekends in the towns you are considering if you can.
When you get it narrowed down get the whole family to check it out for a weekend and a weekday.

Hdic there are many wonderful places in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valley areas to raise a family. My personal preference would be the Santa Clarita Valley located just north of the San Fernando Valley. SCV is a family oriented city with the emphasis on FAMILY! The schools are rated at the highest levels of achievement for comparatively sized cities. You would do well to consider the area.

Please check out my website and feel free to use the MLS search feature available. No obligation of course but should you have any questions I am available to answer them. I have lived and worked in the SCV since 1978!

Good luck on your move!
