Sarasota area. They must have an active clubhouse with a lot of socialization. Can you recommend any communities that we should look at.

Hi Linda, There are so many wonderful communities for the age restrictive buyer that might fit your requirements. This is not something that could be answered without further discussion. When I work with a buyer I need to ask many questions so that I know exactly how to fit the buyer to a proper location and property. Do you want easy acess to beaches, or how about golf and tennis? Are you boaters? Do you want to be close to the cultural activities or do you like open spaces? What type of budget are you working with? Do you prefer a condo, villa or single family home?

I would love to help, if you'll let me.

My best,

Hi Linda,

There are many places like this in Sarasota. It might be helpful if I knew what price range you would be interested in. They range from the low $100,000's to over a million dollars. Please email me at or call me at 941-400-3524 and we can discuss in detail what would be the best choice for you. All my best,

Hi, If you haven't found your new home yet, I would suggest you go visit the Clubhouse at Strathmore Riverside. Not only is it convenient to Malls, Beach, Gulf Gate Village, Siesta Key and I-75, they also have dockage available for homeowners at $10.00 per month! It is a great community with something going on everyday. The prices have come down to pre 2002 prices and there are several units available. Check it out.

Hi Linda,

I can match you with an agent that specifically specializes in retirement communities. He knows everything about the amenities, fee's, how negotiable each community is, etc... If you would like me to get you his info just let me know. I believe its more efficient to spend a day looking at properties with someone who is an expert in your need.

Kind Regards,

Hi Linda,

Just to chime in on some of the other comments, I think you would be remiss not to have a look at communities such as Lakeshore Village and Venetian Falls. These are both communities that I have had recent sales in and I think they would fit the bill for what you are looking for. The prices in some of these 55+ communities are unbelievable. They are often less than $100 per square foot. Best of luck in your search and if I can be of further service let me know.

You'll find plenty of options for good "55 and older" communities in the Sarasota area. As others have already mentioned, there are so many of them and they are so different that it is impossible to make recommendations without knowing your budget and your interests. Do you want a high rise condo, a mobile home, a villa, or a single family home? You say you want a "new" home - does that mean newly-constructed or "new to you?" Have you considered the idea that some country club communities without age restrictions may actually offer the activities and amenities that you are looking for, with more variation in housing styles than some "55 and over" communities? You may also find other beautiful communities such as Village Walk on Palmer Ranch that are not age-restricted, and that have plenty of social activities. The same is true of the Pelican Cove condominiums, where the list of activities will amaze you. I mention these possibilities because I'd hate to see you miss some great options because you have focused entirely on "55 and over" communities. Remember that the demographics of Sarasota are such that you'll find plenty of neighborhoods where you'll fit right in, and the interests of home buyers today are such that numerous communities will provide the activities and social life that you are looking for.

If you would like a fairly comprehensive list of the registered 55+ communities in the Sarasota area, please visit this web site that is provided by the state of Florida: . You'll find numerous options in various locations around Sarasota county. A simple Google search should then lead you to web sites for some of the communities, where you will be able to learn more about them.

I hope that this information and the information posted by other Realtors has been helpful to you. Please keep in mind that it is difficult for us to provide you with comprehensive answers on an internet forum. It will be very beneficial for you to pick up the phone and contact a Realtor who can discuss your needs and interests in detail, and then provide you with the information that you need to make a wise choice. There are several of us here on this forum who would be happy to assist you, and I hope that you will choose one of us. I'm confident that any of us would do a great job for you.

Hi Linda,

Congratulations on deciding on the Sarasota area for your future home. There are many 55+ communities but none any newer or with better amenities than Venetian Falls. The community offers single family homes and attached villas constructed by Centex Builders.

With the majority of homes being constructed in the 2005-2006 era you will find up to date building designs and floor plans. This is a gated community featuring a state of the arts Clubhouse that puts you in the mood of being on vacation in a five-star resott.

Venetian Falls is conveniently located near airports, health care facilities, beaches, shopping, social & Cultural activities etc. Is you are seriously considering Sarasota County, this is not a community to be over looked.

We would b happy to provide additional information about this or other Venice area 55+ options.

Good luck

A quick search of available properties in communities for older persons (over 55) indicates there are homes available in the Hammocks, Siesta Harbor (condo), Strathmore, Tallywood, Village in the Pines and Lake Tippecanoe. All ot these areas have facilities geared towards the over 55 buyer so it is up to you to decide which will offer the most for your particular life style. However, I am prompted to say that Sarasota, as a whole, has many other lovely communities not designated over 55 that offer superlative amenities for their home owners. I would suggest a meeting to discuss your particular needs followed by a short tour of some of these great areas.
You can reach me by email at or by phone at 941-504-3404.
