Manhasset vs summit vs lower Westchester vs demerest

Asked by Snuffles, New York, NY Sun Aug 25, 2013

Thinking of selling my place in Manhattan and moving to the burbs, but as I work minimum 10 hours a day, want something with no more than 60 minutes opening the home door to office building door(times square area), a good school for the kid, and safe neighborhood.

These areas seem to all be good but was wondering if people have opinions on the practicality of 60 minutes max door to door and rankings these in terms of commute, taxes, schools.

Great neck
Short hills

Tx for your thoughts.

Hi Snuffles,
Its really a matter of personal choice. What areas do you feel comfortable in. Have you visited them with a real estate broker or did you do research on the internet about these areas or driven to any of the areas to time the commute. All the areas that you have listed are very nice and High end. The commute door to door from each of these areas is approx 60 min, exactly what your looking for. Taxes are pricey but you can probably do your own research in that area by going to the Real estate Websites and pluging specific areas. Schools go into

Hopefully this helped

Choosing an area is all about personal preferences; if your hesitations to move are due to commuting concerns, why not consider a test run...

Manhasset. Whole foods is in town. You are between 2 fairway markets both less than 10 miles away. There are many convenient shops along northern blvd, including americana mall. All of 5th ave and madison ave retail in one high end out door mall. Costco, bj and roosevelt field mall is 7 miles away. If the port washington railroad stops working, you can still get home by taking the 7 train to flushing, and taking the n21 bus to manhasset. Or you can take a ferry to glen cove, and cab it back to manhasset less than 10 miles away. The N21 bus runs from glen cove too. Given all the things that can happen these days, its important to know that there is an alternate way back home. Metro north seems always to be freezing over. And theres an equinox gym nearby.

Both Manhasset and Great Neck are great neighborhood. Half an hour commute to the city. We have offices in NYC and Manhasset and can help you sell your place in Manhattan and buy a property here.
