Looking for a realtor who can cover a large area

Asked by Michelle, 04101 Sat Jan 17, 2009

Looking for a home near the water (no more than 20 minute drive from the ocean) in ME, NH, or MA. Should I be looking for more than one realtor, one for each area? This can mean 20 or 30 realtors. Or is there a way to get one single realtor to search all of these areas for me.

Hi, thanks for responding. A follow up question for anyone who wants to tackle it.... I have actually done a lot of research on the areas I'm searching in, and have a list of 200+ towns I know for sure I'm willing to live in (researched everthing from weather to population, to home costs, etc ). Most of them are next to one another, so 200+ sounds like a lot more than it is, as one realtor most likely covers the ones close to each other. I'm more open to so many towns because I don't have the need to consider many of the things most other first time buyers do, like schools, commuting, etc. After all of my research into these areas, I feel narrowing the area any further just narrows my chances of finding the home I want, so I will continue to be open to looking in these 200 or so towns until I find something. So, with this in mind, if I understand Mr. Eckler correctly it would be best to use a company that has realtors in all of these areas; which are all coastal towns from MA to ME. To do this, I guess I'd go with a national company, one that I know for sure has agents all over the country like Prudential, ReMax, or Century 21. But I have not been able to find a main "national" contact number for any of these companies. No matter how much I search I can only find phone numbers for local realtors that work for them. How do I reach out to all areas if the websites for these companies force you to contact a local realtor within their company? It still seems that even if I do pick a company that works througout the entire U.S., I still have to contact each agent in each area. Does anyone know of a phone number I can call for Prudential, ReMax, or Century 21 (or other), where I can just tell one person what I want and they send the info to all thier agents that cover the towns I'm looking in? Is this possible? PS) Love Trulia, and I'm currently searching all 200+ towns myself, a little each day. But this is a huge task since I can only search one town at a time. Unless someone knows of a way to plug in all 200 town names (or zip codes) into one database and hit a search button?

This is not a reasonable task for a single realtor. It could possibly be achieved through a large real estate company with a presence in these coastal areas but to do so, it would be necessary to use the talents of a number of different agents.

You may want to consider leading your own search through a vehicle like Trulia until you have narrowed your search to a manageable target area.

Good luck
