Is the security safer to do a home serarch on Trulia or on Facebook?

Asked by David Cooper, Los Angeles, CA Mon Nov 28, 2011

Facebook is NOT where I would go to divulge any info to a stranger.

Trulia is great, but you still need the services of a Realtor who is HIRED by you to represent your best interests. Buying a home is one of the most important and expensive things you will ever do! Would you want someone to listen to your needs, and devote time to you, or a website that is limited only to a few search terms. Hiring a Realtor is the smartest thing to do!

David is right. There is no good reason not to use the services of a good Realtor.

Most web sites are out dated, so you spend hours searching only to find that the home you like is sold. You need an agent who belongs to the Board of Realtors. We pay huge dues to get the most up to date information for our clients. I would be happy to set up an auto search for you. Then you will get new listings the second they come on the market. This is by far the best way to search, because the good homes go fast. 702.434.6975

Neither. Since Trulia doesn't require "Agents" to really be licensed agents and Facebook doesn't do any verification at all, I would be very careful about contacting anyone regarding listings where the website operator takes advertising money from anyone who can write a check, licensed or not.

Facebook is a marketing engine that shares all information with everyone unless you are extremely careful. I would stick with Trulia or contact a Realtor and do a search from their site.

The short answer is neither. This will give you a good place to start a search,

I would trust Trulia much more than Facebook for this type of confidential search. Trulia is one of the established leaders in the industry and should have the best info as well.

I agree. In fact Facebook just got nailed with a big fine for divulging private information when they said they wouldn"t.

What is the purpose of your question?
Are you asking is identity security better on Facebook than Trulia?
Is your concern identity theft?

Or are you asking about reliable data regarding real estate on Facebook and Trulia?

The reality is, if you are on the internet and use anything containing your real name and/or are at risk. Internet security is an illusion. Fortunately, with a gazillion billion folks on the net, it is really hard to spot David Cooper. But, what's the choice we have? sigh.

Neither, use a local real estate todo the search for you or do it youself on our MLS system. This is a good place to start,

Neither for all the reasons posted. Use my web site to do searches or email me your details of what you're looking for and I create a custom search for you which will automatically email you only homes that match your criteria. My wife and I have helped hundreds of people with their real estate needs. We'd love to help you as well. Thanks, Matt and Kim

I am a local Las Vegas Realtor and you can perform your own custom home search at my website.
There are also some great links to gather information such as schools, walkscore info and neighborhood crime stats.
Feel free to give me a call or email at any time.

I don't think facebook is where you want to go to search property. I can't think of any security issues with trulia, but the info is not 100% reliable. For up to date listing info and a secure search site, I recommend mine...

Features include:
map based search
automatic updates
save searches and favorite properties
extremely detailed advanced search criteria
school & neighborhood info

Hi David,

If you're just doing a basic search, I would think either would be fine. However, I would not give my social security number or anything like that on either website.

Best regards,

I would recommend going to an agent who could assist you with your search for a home in the Las Vegas area and direct you to the websites that contain the most current information. If you would like a referral to a website for the Las Vegas area just give me a call at 702-215-1230 or email me at
