Your question comes down to your goal for the property you purchase. If your intent is to live in a well maintained neighborhood that protects the home values and has common areas that are maintained by charging an HOA fee and enforcing the rules, then an HOA is for you. If you prefer to keep to yourself, not worry about the neighbors houses and do not want or need a community pool, playground, etc. then maybe an HOA is not necessary. When searching for a home it is best to set goals and prioritize them. You may never find a home with everything you want but if you list what is most important, you will find the best fit quicker. Good luck with your search.

This depends on what you are seeking in your community. Many people elect to choose communities with HOA's because they find security in knowing that the community has rules and guidelines that must be followed. These standards are in many cases viewed as a means to keep the community orderly and well maintained.

Those that elect to avoid communities with HOA's often resent being told that certain things need to be done with their property or there will be some type of consequence. Rules, regulations, and the watchful eyes of others can often be found s a reason to consider other options.
