If I am buying property in Wisconsin, but live in Illinois, should I try to get a loan where I live or where I want to buy?

The lender needs to be licensed in the state of purchase.

6 of one - I like to deal close to where the property is but you probably have a track record where you live that could work to your advantage. It never hurts to try both to get the best deal either - Half dozen of the other. Welcome to Wisconsin and Good Luck!
