I was told the property crime rate is high in Santa Cruz, a lot of theft is not reported, there's a lot of heroin. Any residents know about this?

Santa Cruz is part of the Espanola Metropolitan Statistical Area, so you can check with the Espanola police so find out how that neighborhood compares with others in Espanola. That's probably a lot better source than individual hearsay stories.

Hello Elissa,

The best source to get accurate crime statistics from is directly from the local police department.

When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local police department with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors. Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods.

Hello Elissa,
I suggest that you contact the local police department to inquire about crime activity in the area so as to hear it first hand.

Here is a link to the sheriff's website in Santa Fe County which may be helpful:

Best wishes!
